Land Conservation News

Topsfield Greenbelt Expands with Patton Acquisition

Thanks to the Patton family's commitment to conservation and the enthusiastic financial support of several local residents, Greenbelt will soon acquire the Shaw Field and an adjoining 40-acre parcel on Asbury Street in Topsfield.
As a result, Greenbelt will create a nearly 50-acre new Reservation which will offer enhanced public access to an existing trail system that extends into Bradley Palmer State Park. Addtionally, it will protect prime agricultural soils and habitat for rare species, while expanding one of the most significant greenbelts in the region.

Land Stewardship Update

Welcome Dave McKinnon, Land Stewardship Assistant

Experienced land manager Dave McKinnon has been hired to expand our Land Stewardship staff, and enhance our ability to mange a growing inventory of public reservations and conservation restrictions. Dave had recently served as the stewardship coordinator for the town of Lincoln, MA.

He brings a wealth of skill and capability to this new position, where he will assist with property management, conservation restriction monitoring, mapping and other special projects such as habitat improvements and invasive species management. Dave lives in Rockport with his wife Melissa and their two children.

Massachusetts Will See Partial Solar Eclipse

While we are north of the path of the total solar eclipse on August 21, Massachusetts (weather permitting) will still see a spectacular sky event.
The partial eclipse begins at 1:28 pm, peaks at 2:46 pm, and ends at 3:59 pm.  At its peak in Massachusetts, about 70% of the sun's surface will be blocked by the moon.  For more information and SAFE viewing instructions, click this link.  The next total solar eclipse visible in North America is in 2024.
